About RBARI

The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge (RBARI) has been a haven for animals in need in Oakland, NJ — rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs, cats, and small animals with compassion and care. Every pet available for adoption is examined by a veterinarian and vaccinated, so families can welcome a new companion with confidence.

The numbers tell the story of the work: RBARI shelters around 165 animals each month, performs roughly 700 spay/neuter surgeries a year, provides veterinary care to some 900 animals, handles around 200 critical medical cases, and celebrates approximately 765 successful adoptions annually. Beyond adoptions, the refuge offers community resources like low-cost spay/neuter, lost-and-found assistance, and surrender support — and it's currently undertaking its "Building Hope" renovation to create calmer, safer, healthier spaces where animals can heal and prepare for adoption.

It's exactly the kind of organization that makes a community better — neighbors caring for the most vulnerable among us — which is why we wanted to feature them.
